Conservation Units (CUs) are defined areas and protected by government agencies, having the importance of their creation, based on the great biodiversity and / or scenic beauty of the area. In view of the conservation of Paraiba biodiversity, the State, through State Decree No. 35.750 / 2015, suggested the creation of a PA to protect the biotic and abiotic environment of the marine area of the capital of Paraíba. In response to this need, researchers from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) presented a proposal for the creation of a UC, called State Marine Park of Shipwreck Burned. However, in discussions with other institutions involved, it was concluded that, due to the size of the area and the need for use for the local economy, the ideal is that the new CU be of sustainable use as cited in Art. 15 of Law 9,985 / 200 (SNUC) for large areas and with a certain degree of occupation. This CU will comprise an area of 422.69 km², corresponding to 10.2% of the submerged continental shelf of Paraíba and will protect corals, the main dive sites and important shipwrecks.
