Bokaak Atoll was established as a traditionally-managed protected area prior to the RMI's independence from the US in 1986, but has not been re-established and are therefore is not officially recognized as a marine protected area.
Bokak Atoll (Marshallese: Bokaak or Bok-ak, /pˠɜkʷɦˠak/ or [p̴ʌ͡ɔɡʷʕɑk][1]) or Taongi Atoll is an uninhabited coral atoll in the Ratak Chain of the Marshall Islands, located in the North Pacific Ocean at 14°32′N 169°00′E. Due to its relative isolation from the main islands in the group, Bokak has an undisturbed flora and fauna that has been allowed to exist in a pristine condition.
