Linking South Africa’s Robberg Peninsula marine protected area (MPA) to the edge of the Tsitsikamma MPA, the Plett Hope Spot features outstanding natural beauty. This expanse of coastline includes rocky platforms, sandy beaches, and subtidal rocky reefs that are home to a Cape fur seal colony and numerous over-exploited and slow-growing fishery species that are in urgent need of protection including dageraad, red stumpnose, red steenbras, seventy-four, musselcracker, poenskop, white steenbras and dusky kob.
Location- The proposed Hope Spot area is approximately 871km² and demarcated as the marine area between and including the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area (MPA) and the Rodderg MPA. The marine boundary of the bay area is delineated by the line between the South-Weestern seaward corner of Robberg MPA (34° 07.633ˈ S; 23° 22.300ˈ E) and the South- Eastern seaward corner of Tsitrsikamma MPA and measures (34° 06.600ˈ S; 24° 11.655ˈ E). The terrestrial boundary is demarcated by the Mean High Wwater Mark (MHWM) along the coastline and includes the Keurbooms River Estuary, Piesang River Estuary and Bitou Wwetland, as well as the Salt River and Groot River Estuary.
