Located in the Arctic Ocean between Greenland and Siberia, The Gakkel Ridge is the deepest and most remote portion of the global mid-ocean ridge system. Geologically, it connects the northern end of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge with the Laptev Sea Rift. The diversity of life found surrounding the hydrothermal vents of the Gakkel Ridge are not well known, but it is thought that the unique ecosystem hosts’ distinctive and diverse life found nowhere else on earth. The Gakkel Ridge is declared a Hope Spot by Mission Blue.
