The Southern Pacific Gyre is a large part of the Earth’s system of rotating ocean currents, located between Australia and South America. The current spans from the Antarctic ocean to the equator. The center of the South Pacific Gyre is the site on Earth farthest from any continents and productive ocean regions. Often regarded as Earth’s largest oceanic desert, the Core of the South Pacific Gyre is designated by Mission Blue as a Hope Spot. Source: Wikipedia
