The Andaman Islands are a group of Indian Ocean archipelagic islands in the Bay of Bengal, between the Indian peninsula and Burma. The Andaman Islands are high volcanic island that arise from a submerged mountain chain in the Andaman Sea. Groups like WWF have focused on the area because of the extremely diverse and well-preserved nature of the coral reefs in the area. The Andaman islands are home to species like the saltwater crocodile, dugong, leatherback sea turtles, and many different seabirds. Unfortunately due to many nearby human activities such as clearing of mangrove forests and agriculture, the Andaman Islands are under threat and Mission Blue has declared them as one of their new Hope Spots.
